One of the original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he plans to personally create the controversial product within an individual collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

The recent announcement escalates the ongoing conflict between the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced through an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes and Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will create additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades with the organization, citing worries that the company's autonomy was compromised after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented that "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
