I Was So Ill Walking Was Impossible Until a Fellow Passenger Practically Supported Me to a Restroom.

During my nineteenth year, my daily commute involved an express bus. It remained crowded and was consistently standing room only once I got on.

During a certain commute, I was feeling quite nauseous as the bus lurched around every turn. I continuously reassured myself to persevere just a little longer before the bus reached my destination, so I could then sprint quickly toward the most convenient washroom to be sick.

We were coming down the road leading to the destination as I realised I was unable to last. All of a sudden, it was like a veil came over me. Everything just went white and really quiet; like someone had cut the sound. I thought, “I’m going to faint”.

Luckily I was close to the driver on the bus, so I took a few steps forward and requested that the driver to stop, explaining to him I was going to get ill. He promptly opened the bus doors and I hurriedly stepped out onto the street.

I was resolved to not get sick in front of multiple lanes of cars, so I forced myself up and started trying to walk to the park opposite the street, thinking I could it would allow me to secretly conceal myself among some shrubs to throw up. Yet I must have lost consciousness. I sensed my physical self, yet walking was impossible or see clearly, so I started inching my way to the park.

“Everything alright, love?”

In that instant, I was lifted up. I sensed an arm around my waist and heard a man say, “You right, love?” I managed to tell the mysterious stranger that I had to to be sick. Therefore, he almost carried me down into a nearby building and put me inside the women’s restroom. He inquired if I needed him to wait for me but I declined.

Not long after, I regained my composure sufficiently to sit on the restroom floor and from the other side of the door I heard his voice asking, “Do you need anything, love? Do you need anything?” I was incapable to rise right away but did manage to express my gratitude and shortly thereafter regained the function of my limbs. I made my way home and spent the following days recovering from which was a nasty tummy bug.

I never glimpsed that man’s face – just his lower half and a large metal toolbox he had with him – but he saved me, at a moment I was completely helpless.

Often this world tends to make people self-protective, pushy, and rivalrous. His act was the type of kindness that reverses that emotional callousness. He was proof that people’s natural inclination is towards kindness, something I love about my fellow humans.
