Members of an Italian clan of burglars who stole over £1.2 million worth of items, among them from ex- Newcastle United forward Isak, have been mandated to pay back only £1 each.

Siblings Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo, their sister Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the northeastern of England to raid multiple homes in spring 2024.

The foursome were imprisoned for from six and 10 years in 2025.

At a criminal assets proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must pay over a thousand pounds.

Details of the Break-ins

The court previously heard the gang came by ferry in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024 and used a RV as their "headquarters", which they stationed at Scotch Corner and Durham rest stops while utilizing another car to search for targets and carry out burglaries.

On 31 March they stole more than one million pounds of goods such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a honor from a residence on Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the residents were on holiday.

The following night, the gang broke into a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, and stole designer handbags, jewellery and footwear worth more than £100,000.

After scouting out the football club's training ground for 48 hours, they then acted at the home of Sweden player Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, stealing £10,000 in cash, £68,000 valued of jewelry and the striker's £120,000 Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by prosecutors as professional itinerant thieves, used gloves and masks, switched their phones off as they approached their targets and attached a license plate, which had been taken from a auto shop in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Legal Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had denied the burglary plot but was convicted by the court, while his three relations had all submitted admissions to the identical accusation.

At the criminal gains hearing, lawyer Daniel Cordey said every one of the defendants had benefited from their crimes to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was determined by what the victims said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual deemed to have any money that could be "recovered", namely over a thousand pounds which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the court was informed, with two weeks to be served in prison if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no money or assets so were directed to pay a nominal fee of £1 each, with seven days in incarceration the consequence if the sum was not paid.

Judge Spragg said if they were found with assets in the future, "for example operating in Italy in a sports car or possessing a property", prosecutors could seek further action to "satisfy the amount outstanding".
