Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
