Recent details have emerged concerning the shocking passing of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Discovery

According to a report citing a confidential source, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the house. The therapist then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides close by.

Upon entering the home, Romy discovered her father's body. It is said she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Proceedings

The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, including the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held and is ineligible for bail.

Correcting the Record

The confidential informant also disputed several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the property, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that time.

Additionally disputed published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's actions in the preceding period. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement applies to accounts of alleged "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering held by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they asserted that reports of a "heated argument" between the two were inaccurate.

Investigation Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the state of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for a period of time.

Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until Wednesday or later.
