‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: The Actress Meg Ryan Publishes Moving Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA at the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner through a message shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s notable filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
