Shock as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the attack is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.

Details of the Attack

Police revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a building close to the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the site managing the installation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.

"The report indicates the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities confirmed.

Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.

Important clues, like bullet casings, were recovered from the scene.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have have information to come forward.

"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their destination," added an official.

A Nation in Mourning

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a devastating blow."

She appealed to the citizens to refrain from sharing explicit content from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.

Apart from his media career, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including private security, offering high-level security services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and participated in tenant removals.

His killing has caused national trauma and led to an flood of condolences from his followers, the authorities and various organizations.

A cabinet official commented he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.

"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we should be," was his tribute.

A public representative stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A media executive expressed that "DJ Warras was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."

In a communication, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will live on".

South Africa, the African economic powerhouse, has one of the world's highest rates of violent death, fuelled by robberies and gang violence, with some over sixty individuals murdered daily between April and September, according to government figures.
