Supporters Urge Detainment of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who breached a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage depicts the Australian man bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed features clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film version of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, winning several for best costume and production design.
