The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
